Biography
Sylvester Zagato (b. 1997, Geneva)
is a Swiss artist based in Berlin, Germany.
Back in Switzerland, he studied horticulture. Drawn to growth, form, and the quiet intelligence of nature, his early fascination turned into a way of seeing the world. Not just as subject matter, but as art itself. Self-generating, rhythmic, and imperfectly precise. During this period, he began painting and developed a visual language rooted in emotion, repetition, and abstraction.
After relocating to Berlin, Zagato expanded his practice into sculpture, exploring ideas of connection and interaction through resin-based forms.
Artist Statement
My work begins with a fascination for the structures of nature, not only their geometry but the quiet intelligence that keeps them alive. I have always been drawn to the way things grow, how forms repeat and adapt.
In painting, I explore the inner network, tracing obsession, anxiety, and desire through abstract gestures that mirror the infinite mind’s own cycles.
Through sculpture, these forces extend into space. The forms feel organic and alive, shaped by ideas of extension, support, and betrayal. They evoke the invisible networks that connect humans.
Creating helps me to stay close to what it feels to be alive, the slow and uncertain process through which things take form.
